Hyster Fortis T Trucks offer new breakthroughs in industry

Durable designs and exceptional quality enable Hyster Company and dealerships like Barloworld Handling to be strong partners in providing the toughest lift trucks to the materials handling industry. Over the next few years, the Hyster Company will look to improve the way it builds and sells lift trucks. Whether it's a pallet jack or a container handler, or anything in between, it's up for innovative changes as the Fortis T line of lift trucks are rolled out over the next few years.
With the most comprehensive research in the industry and hours spent talking to customers like you on your lift truck needs, the pre-design team determined that approximately 70% of lift truck downtime was a result of problems from the powertrain, electrical system, cooling system or hydraulic system. The Fortis T line will practically eliminate many of these mechanical issues as well as reducing downtime by up to 30%.
Lowering your cost of operations is also a key factor in lift truck ownership. The Fortis T series concept is to offer better fuel efficiency, extended tire life, a reduction in brake wear and a decrease in service time. The result is an annual savings of up to $1,900 (per year/per vehicle) in comparison to competitive products - regardless of the engine-transmission configuration you select.
Leading features of the new Fortis T line include:
- Patented DuraMatch T Transmissions
- Efficient Powertrain Design
- Improved Serviceability
- Industry leading Cooling Capacity
- Hassle-free Hydraulic System
- Lower Driver Fatigue
- Higher Driver Preference
- Best in Class Serviceability
- Industry's Best Warranty
- Performance Plus T Parts Guarantee
Each of these breakthroughs demonstrates a firm commitment to be your strongest partner, offering the toughest trucks for your lift truck needs.

Barloworld Handling Secures Beaulieu of America as Single Source Vendor
The Dalton Georgia branch of Barloworld Handling LP has clinched its largest sale in company history with Beaulieu of America. Beaulieu, one of the largest carpet manufacturers in the United States, will have 415 lift trucks replaced over a five-year period with 231 deliveries beginning prior to December 31, 2004. The sales deliveries will include new Hyster equipment, used competitive lift trucks, personnel carriers, AWP's and other floor maintenance equipment. Barloworld will also provide Total Solutions Fleet Maintenance for more than 550 units of materials handling equipment.
Woody Brazel, Dalton Georgia Plant Manager for Barloworld Handling, states, "Beaulieu's needs became like a 'perfect storm' for Barloworld as the customer's enormous requirements meshed almost perfectly with our wide range of products, superior aftermarket support and our full financing programs available through Barloworld Fleet Leasing."
Initially, four manufacturers and their distributors were selected for the bid process. Alan Weeks, Purchasing Manager MRO for Beaulieu, indicated that Barloworld went to the full extent to provide requested information from the very beginning.
"Demonstrator trucks were provided for evaluation including the new Hyster AC powered truck," said Weeks. "We began to allow Barloworld to do maintenance on some of our existing fleet, and this proved very effective. We not only reduced maintenance cost, but also increased up time."
Members from the Barloworld Alabama Sales Division, Atlanta Georgia branch and other Hyster dealers around the country all played a major role in compiling data and information for the program's success. After careful consideration, Barloworld Handling was chosen as Beaulieu's new single source vendor.
"Our overall strategy was to provide the Total Service Solution for Fleet Management to the Beaulieu procurement group. This comprehensive solution demonstrated increased productivity, reduced cost of operation, maximum efficiencies in the customers operations and the Dalton plant's commitment to make it all happen," said Steve Sosebee, Major Accounts Manager for the Dalton area.
It was the quality one-stop shopping opportunity that appealed to Beaulieu of America. Aaron Phillips, Project Engineer for Beaulieu commented, "By striking a good balance between new technology and proven technology, the Barloworld/Hyster product line offered a superior value to our company. The thoroughness of the assessment of our material handling needs, which was a significant investment of time and energy on the part of Barloworld, gave our team a high level of confidence in Barloworld."

IMA's Second Annual Forklift Rodeo

This year, Barloworld was one of the proud sponsors Industrial Manager's Association's (IMA) second annual Forklift Rodeo held in Lincolnton, NC. The event took place on October 6th at the Robert Bosch Tool Corp, Lincolnton Manufacturing Division. The purpose of the event is to bring awareness to the importance of forklift safety and training.
According to David Lee, general manager of Robert Bosch Tool Corp., "The Forklift Rodeo is an excellent opportunity for the manufacturers in Lincoln County to spotlight the importance of plant safety."
Eight other competitors from the area competed in the Rodeo. Operators were required to navigate a forklift obstacle course, which was set up by the safety manager at Timken, one of Barloworld's customers in the Lincoln county area. The course had such obstacles as keeping a bucket full of water steady while driving around alternating cones that were topped with tennis balls. Accuracy and careful driving were critical elements in winning this competition and Jeffrey Baltando of Doug Herbert Performance was the grand-prize winner, another Barloworld customer.
In addition to Barloworld and Bosch Tool Corp, IMA, Lincoln Economic Development, and The Timken Company also sponsored this year's rodeo. All participants received a trophy and goody bags filled with donated items by the sponsors. A $500 prize pack was also awarded as a grand prize.

CCCB Converts From LP to Electric Power

Dave Hilfiger, NC Sales Department, sold Coca-Cola Consolidated Bottling of Charlotte NC a total of 82 new lift trucks consisting of B60/80Z's, E30HSD's, E60XM's and W60Z's. As CCCB is converting from LP gas powered to electric powered lift trucks, this order of units begins the conversion process. Select material handling processes will change as the new units are delivered.
CCCB is the second largest Coca-Cola bottler in the United States. Many of their locations have Barloworld Handling branches nearby, making Barloworld highly accessible for CCCB's growing needs. Factoring heavily in CCCB's choice of Barloworld Handling and Hyster equipment was the depth of Barloworld Handling's aftermarket support - specifically, the ability to provide "truck specific" technical training and "truck specific" model orientation and initial operator training on-site.
CCCB sent ten technicians from multiple locations to the Charlotte Barloworld Training Facility for five days of intense training. On the following Saturday, CCCB's Charleston facility operators received detailed truck orientation and initial supervised equipment operation instruction. Charleston's new equipment was put into production on the following Monday. The week following, the same hands-on orientation and initial operator training was conducted at CCCB's Raleigh NC facility. And again, the new equipment was put into production on the following Monday.
Meeting and exceeding customer's expectations is what Barloworld Handling continues to strive for in becoming the market leader for materials handling equipment in the southeastern United States.
